Paint Research

We are expert in investigating the early colors and decorative finishes of historic sites. This process includes on-site investigation and collecting small samples to observe under a microscope.

Using this material evidence and the building’s historical context, we can recreate the color history of a space over time. Exposure “windows” through layers of paint can help reveal historic colors.

We can provide paint color matches in contemporary paint products and create replication sample boards.

Preservation Consulting

We have expertise in the research, documentation, and evaluation of historic sites. We assess properties for their significance and eligibility for local, state, and national landmark designations.

We conduct surveys to evaluate the significance of buildings in a neighborhood or throughout a town; research areas to identify historic contexts and themes that give a place meaning; and write local, state, and federal level documentation and nominations.

Condition Assessments

We observe and assess existing structures to aid owners’ capital planning, maintenance projects.
